Much More than a Drop-in Center...

LGBTQ Youth ProgramsIYG is located in a little grayish-white house on the southwest corner of 46th and Binford Boulevard in Indianapolis.  Our activity center serves as a safe and confidential environment for LGBTQ youth and straight allies ages 12 through 20 to hang out and be themselves. The center has a fully functional kitchen, plenty of lounge space, computers, our LGBTQ youth library, a large activity room and a large back yard.  The activity center is open on Wednesday and Thursday from 3 - 9 PM and on Friday from 3 - 11 PM.

Some of the in-house events that happen throughout the year are our Halloween Party, Holiday Party, and Day of Silence. Events outside of the IYG house include our Youth Talent Show, LGBTQ Prom, marching on/by the IYG float in the Indy Pride Festival Parade and an LGBTQ youth leadership summit.

There are always at least two staff members present, plus extra volunteer youth mentors, to provide support and supervision. Dinner is provided for the youth by volunteers/donors.  All services and programs are free.

Programming Philosophy

There are five core principles guiding the programming that is created, selected, and implemented at IYG.

Referring Youth to IYG

Youth can be referred to IYG or they can just stop in.  Please feel free to call IYG if you would like to talk with a staff member prior to the youth coming.  This is especially helpful if there are extenuating circumstances and background information.  It can be helpful to know if the youth has mental health problems, is struggling with school or depression, or if the youth is in foster care or placement.

If parents/guardians would like to come with the youth the first time they come, or at anytime actually, please do.  We will give you a tour and explain the programming.  It is expected though, that you will then leave and come back later to pick the youth up.  (There's plenty of restaurants close by and even a library branch if you need to have something to do in the meantime.)  Please come for a tour on Wednesday or Thursday evenings when there aren't as many youth at the center and the staff will have time to meet with you.  If you need to stop by on a Friday, please come before 6pm or call first.

POP (Parents of Pride)

POP was created to be a resource for parents and caregivers of LGBTQ+ youth. Find out more HERE!

Indiana Youth Group Mission

Indiana Youth Group (IYG) provides safe places and confidential environments where self-identified lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth are empowered through programs, support services, social and leadership opportunities and community service. IYG advocates on their behalf in schools, in the community, and through family support services.

In General…

Thousands of youth have walked through IYG's door to discover a safe place in a difficult world.  They become strong and healthy adults with positive self-images.  They develop friendships without the worry of rejection.  They hone their social and leadership skills and find role models who fit the vision for their futures.  They grow confident in their quest to be themselves.  They find out they are okay.
