About Indiana Youth Group

Indiana Youth Group (IYG) serves young people from ages 12 to 21 who self-identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or questioning and their allied friends.

For Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) youth, the normal stress of adolescence can be heightened by the pressures that often accompany the internal awareness of being different. Social stigma, rejection, and bullying are often experienced by LGBT youth. It is no surprise that compared to their heterosexual peers, LGBT youth tend to experience a higher incidence of isolation, depression, suicide, and homelessness.

IYG’s activity center offers a supportive environment that allows the youth to build self-confidence, explore individualism, and develop friendships within a community that values fairness, acceptance, respect for diversity, and equality.

Since 1987, the Indiana Youth Group has been a positive force impacting thousands of LGBT youth. Our Board, staff, and volunteers continue to energetically fulfill IYG’s mission.

Provide a safe place, a confidential environment and services which foster self-esteem, resiliency, and positive decision-making skills among self-identified lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender young people, and to advocate on their behalf in schools, on the streets, and in the community.

Incorporated as a 501-C-3 organization, approximately one third of IYG’s annual budget comes from foundation and governmental grants, one third from special events (LGBT film festival, annual dinner, and the IYG art auction), and one third from donations from local organizations and individuals.
