Indiana Youth Group Honors Executive Director Mary Byrne Upon Retirement

(May 4, 2017) - After 9 years of dedicated leadership, Indiana Youth Group (IYG) Executive Director Mary Byrne, a tireless advocate for the LGBT community for decades, has retired.

When Byrne took the helm of IYG, the organization was struggling with finances and long term stability. Under Byrne's leadership, IYG has expanded programming, deepened services for at-risk LGBT youth, and secured predictable funding sources for the organization.

"Mary brought this organization back from the brink of being shuttered forever," said Bryan Luellen, board member since 2011. "Her leadership and creative funding strategies have propelled IYG to new heights."

Over the past 8 months, Byrne has provided critical support in pursuing funding for the acquisition and renovation of a new facility for the organization to better deliver, high-quality programs and services, located at 3733 N. Meridian Street in Indianapolis. IYG has already secured more than $2 million of the total $2.6 million facility project. Renovations are expected to begin this summer and IYG will move into the building in December of this year.

To recognize Byrne's leadership that reinvigorated the organization and made a new facility possible, the Board of Directors will name the Executive Director office in her honor. IYG is accepting donations toward the capital campaign goal and contributions can be made In Honor of Mary Byrne.

The Board of Directors will conduct a comprehensive search for a new executive director beginning immediately.
